Iran to EU: Washington main driver of Israeli carnage in Gaza
TEHRAN- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has noted that the United States’ supportive policies are the primary element enabling the Zionist regime to continue slaughtering people in the beleaguered Gaza Strip.
Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in a Saturday phone conversation with the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell.
During the talk, Iran’s top diplomat emphasized the need to put a stop to the Zionist regime’s atrocities against Palestinians as soon as possible.
“The Zionist regime’s military attacks against the people of Gaza must stop as soon as possible to pave the way for the dispatch of humanitarian aid,” he said.
Abdollahian went on to emphasize, “Supportive policies adopted by the United States have encouraged the Zionist regime to continue its military aggression and massacre of civilians in Gaza, and also play an important role in the continuation and further spread of the war.”
Iran’s foreign minister also delivered a severe warning regarding the Zionist regime’s plan to forcibly deport Palestinians from the occupied territories.
“The root cause of the current situation in the occupied territories is the Zionist regime’s occupation and aggression. If the Israeli regime’s war crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank do not stop, it is possible for the war to further deepen and spread to other parts of the region,” Amir Abdollahian averred.
For his part, Borrell stated that the European Union is attempting to get Israel to abide by its legal commitments under international law and that tensions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip need to stop as soon as possible.
He noted that Iran can play a key player in easing tensions in the region.
The EU foreign policy chief also expressed optimism that Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency would continue their productive partnership.
Speaking briefly on Iran’s contribution to easing tensions in the region, Borrell also pointed out that the EU thinks diplomacy is the best way to resolve the Palestine issue and that continuing military operations will only exacerbate the situation.
Shortly after a seven-day truce agreement with Gaza’s Hamas resistance group, Israel began a fresh round of indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza Strip on Friday.
In Gaza, there have been around 15,200 deaths and over 40,000 injuries thus far. Women and children make up 70% of the casualties in Israeli strikes on the blockaded region, according to the Health Ministry of Gaza.
